About the role
This post forms an important part of the Housing Repairs & Maintenance Service. The successful applicant will be trained as part of the Housing Repairs & Maintenance team carrying out essential repairs throughout The Reading Borough Council area.
Combining work-based learning with part time release to college, you will develop knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the Carpentry trade.
Working under supervision, you will be expected to assist in carrying out Carpentry related tasks, including relevant multi skilling duties, within the scope of the role.
As an apprentice carpenter, you will be required to undertake a variety of tasks with the majority of our carpentry work being in a domestic environment.
Examples of work content but not exhaustive of;
- Installing and repairing skirting boards, floorboards, cupboards, and shelving, as well as door handles and locks,
- Repair/ renew doors and door casing, handrails, balustrades, pipe boxings and panelling,
- Repair/ renew kitchen units, work tops.
You will have support from our existing teams and learn from experienced carpenters.
About you

- With an enthusiasm for working within the building industry, you will require no previous experience or qualifications. You will be working towards an NVQ Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship qualification, with the ability to understand the importance of good teamwork.
- You must have a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a commitment to high quality customer service.
- You must have good communication skills with both customers and colleagues.
- You must have or be willing to work toward having a full driving licence.
