Working at
Crystal Palace London. The Guys & St Thomas Rehabilitation Centre located on Bowley Close which is adjacent to a major bus terminus and the overground Southern Train Line serviced by the Crystal Palace and Gipsy Hill stations. The centre is a free-standing building in a residential suburb with a closely located high street containing shops and restaurants. There is a multidisciplinary NHS team providing Orthotic, Counselling and Wheelchair services in addition to the Opcare Prosthetics operation. Opcare provides the Prosthetic clinical service as well as a workshop which fabricates both the prosthetic limbs as well as orthotic devices. You will be part of a close knit 16-member team rendering these services.
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Prosthetic and Orthotic Apprentice Technician who is looking for an opportunity to be develop their career and be a part of our large and dynamic team in Crystal Palace.
The Level 3 Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician is responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing, and modifying prosthetic and orthotic devices. This role requires an interest in using technical skills to ensure high-quality patient care by collaborating with clinicians and other healthcare professionals. The technician will utilize specialized tools and materials to manufacture custom devices according to specifications and patient requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Some of the key responsibilities the role holder will have responsibility for:
- Interpretation and basic understanding of prosthetic and/or orthotic information (e.g. prescriptions or work orders) supplied by Clinician
- Undertake daily repairs and adjustments using a wide range of appropriate materials and tools.
- Manufacture and repair as appropriate component limbs incorporating regular use of a variety of hand tools.
- Ensure that finished products comply with any associated Measure Charts, manufacturer’s instructions etc.
- Prepare to receive training in all core skills and areas of production.
- Follow Health and Safety guidelines.
The role will be instrumental in helping to develop and implement service improvements for the betterment of patients in Location.
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, regional, and national training to develop their clinical skills to support the service. We aim to deliver a first class service for users whilst applying the most advanced and exciting clinical and technical solutions available to patients.
Qualifications:
Please list Essential qualifications required:
- 5 GSCE’s (or equivalent) at grades A-C or 4-9, to include Mathematics and English
- Evidence of recent studies
- Current DBS
- Ability to meet the occupational health requirements of the programme
