About the apprenticeship role…
This role is an Apprentice Project Engineer based in Derby with our Commissioning team. You will study a Level 3 Project Controls Technician qualification in clean water which will take around 36 months to complete including the end point assessment (EPA) and you will work with our specialist training provider on this. You will work 40 hours per week onsite.
During the apprenticeship you will learn to take client information from an outline design stage and ensure the project controls and workflow is in place to start effective delivery of the project on site. The cradle to grave approach will continue through delivery to project handover to the client.
What your day could look like…
- Involved in pre-award client site visits
- Learning about the tendering process and assisting estimating engineers
- Working with our Design team to understand the scope and solution of the project
- Attending buildability, ALM and HazOp meetings
- Learning to understand HSEQ responsibilities and requirements
- Be involved in the RAMS review with site team members
- Using engineering data and documentation to help deliver projects
- Work with supply chain to ensure design outputs are covered
- Assist in evaluation of scope
- Work with Design and Delivery teams throughout the lifespan of the project
- Support the project manager with any project administration requests
We are committed to giving all our apprentices the required number of off the job training hours per week to dedicate to your studies and time to attend training with your apprenticeship provider.
About you…
You will need the following to be eligible for this apprenticeship:
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at a grade 4 or above.
- It would be desirable for you to have some Level 3 qualifications, e.g. – A Levels, T Level, Btec and be interested in science/engineering subjects studied.
You will need to be 18 years old + to apply for this apprenticeship due to Health and Safety restrictions.
Due to the nature of the role, a full driving licence would be highly recommended. If you are currently learning to drive, we may be able to support financially towards this, dependent on meeting our criteria.
This role is a September 2025 start.
This apprenticeship would particularly suit someone who has good team working skills and wants to work with others to find solutions to problems. We would like you to be able to show you have good written skills and can talk to others well. You will need to be organised and have a good attention to detail, being digitally savvy is also important. We want you to be excited to develop a career, learn more and gain an apprenticeship qualification.
