The RAC, in partnership with North Humberside Motor Trades Group Training Association (Motor Trades GTA) have an exciting unique Apprenticeship Programme for aspiring Roadside Patrols and Mobile Mechanics across the country!
As the UK's leading breakdown service provider, the RAC is a people powered business with 4,000 'Orange Heroes' delivering top-notch motoring services to both private and business drivers. Our Apprenticeship Programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience needed to excel in the automotive industry, whether as one of our roadside breakdown patrols or as one of our mobile mechanics.
What you will experience
- Comprehensive Training: Our programme combines college learning with hands-on training led by experienced apprentice team leaders. You'll gain exposure to real life breakdown situations and mobile mechanic services, going beyond traditional mechanic training to develop a well-rounded skill set.
- Real World Experience: As an apprentice, you'll provide roadside assistance, perform diagnostics, and carry out repairs, all while effectively communicating with our members to ensure they get back on the road. Our mobile mechanics also complete services, repairs, and diagnostics at customers' homes or workplaces, offering a diverse range of experiences.
- State of the Art Equipment: Throughout your qualification, you'll have access to a fully equipped, state-of-the-art company vehicle and complete tool kit, this will ensure you have the tools needed to succeed and grow.

On completion of a comprehensive induction programme your rota will typically involve working at roadside for 4 weeks then you will need to attend Motor Trades GTA College in Hull (HU4 7DY) for 1 week, every 4-5 weeks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Age and License: Applicants must be over 18 years old (with no upper age limit) and hold a full clean UK driving license with less than 3 points.
- Maths and English: GCSE or equivalent Maths and English minimum Grade 4 or above.
- Willingness to Learn: We seek individuals with a strong desire to learn and grow in a dynamic environment, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities.
- Hours of Work: Average 40 hours per week. You will work shifts - 7 days per week on a rota between 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight in the first year.
You will work towards a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship, providing a solid foundation for your career in the automotive industry.
