What You'll Be Doing
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and craftspeople to learn all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance in a manufacturing environment. Under supervision, your tasks will include:
- · Planning and preparing for maintenance and repair of engineered systems
- · Performing preventative maintenance as outlined in the PPM schedule
- · Supporting continuous improvement through best practice and innovation
- · Getting involved in both electrical and mechanical tasks (multi-skilling)
- · Understanding gypsum production processes and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles
- · Always working to the highest safety standards and demonstrating due diligence
- · Carrying out reasonable requests from Team Leaders and Senior Managers
- · Adhering to all company policies on H&S, training, quality, and development

Training & Development
This is a structured Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship delivered in partnership with Nottingham College
- · Year 1: Block release college study, with short placements back at site
- · Years 2–4: Combination of shorter block releases and day release, with most time spent at the Barrow Works
Supported by both British Gypsum and Nottingham College, with regular progress reviews, mentoring, and hands-on assessments
You’ll be developing core technical skills, knowledge, and behaviours in preparation for your End Point Assessment
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a motivated individual who is:

- · Mechanically or technically curious
- · Eager to learn and adapt in a hands-on, industrial environment
- · A good communicator with strong problem-solving skills
- · Able to prioritise tasks and work under your own initiative
- · A team player with a “can-do” attitude and good attention to detail
Qualifications Required:
- · Minimum 5 GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) including Maths, English, Science, and IT or a technical subject
- · Engineering-related extracurriculars (e.g. fixing bikes/machines) are a plus
- · Access to your own transport is an advantage due to the rural location

Our standard working hours are 8am-4pm Monday to Thursday with an early finish on Friday
, with the option to work from home 3 days a week after training.
