Join a growing hands-on team and train on real construction projects. You’ll gain a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification, practical site experience and clear progression to Level 3 and supervisory roles.
This is a practical engineering/construction apprenticeship: on-programme training will be delivered through the college’s Engineering (Fabrication & Welding) or Construction Steelwork pathway and leads to a Level 2 Structural Steelwork Erector qualification/NVQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced erectors with lifting, positioning and securing fabricated steel.
- Carry out basic levelling, bolting, temporary bracing and finish checks under supervision.
- Follow site safety procedures, use PPE and participate in toolbox talks.
- Read and act on basic structural drawings and setting-out information.
- Attend off-the-job college training and complete required theory and practical assessments.
Training & Qualifications
- On-programme to: an Engineering (Fabrication & Welding) apprenticeship with a focus on Structural Steel Erecting — leading to a Level 2 qualification/NVQ and employer-led EPA.
- Industry certificates supported: CSCS, Working at Height, Slinger/Signaller, PASMA, IPAF (if required).

Applicants must be at least 16 years old (minimum school-leaving age). Persons under 16 cannot be employed in construction or permitted to carry out work at height. 16–17 year-olds will only undertake higher-risk tasks (including work at height) following college acceptance, a specific risk assessment, task-specific training and close supervision.
