9:00am to 5:00pm Mon to Fri are our normal working hours – college time to be discussed
Skills Required
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

- Interest in manufacturing, particularly alongside engineering and electronics.
- Basic IT skills.
Duration: 8 to 12 months
Wage: Apprentice rate
Qualifications Required:
It is a mandatory requirement that all apprentices that do not already hold a Level 2 in maths and English will work towards functional skills as part of their apprenticeship programme.
Future Prospects:
Possibility of continuing employment for the right person. Possibility of opportunity to continue with a level 3 apprenticeship depending on the needs and requirements of the business and the individual.

Description
As an Apprentice SMT Operator, you will learn how to set-up, operate, and maintain SMT equipment to facilitate the assembly of electronic components onto PCBs. You will build expertise in operating Samsung CP and SM machine and ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our manufacturing processes under the management of our main SMT Operator and other experienced Production staff.
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup: Configure Samsung CP and SM machines according to product specifications, including programming feeders, selecting appropriate nozzles, and optimising machine settings for efficient operation.
- Component Loading: Load electronic components onto feeders and ensure proper alignment and orientation for accurate placement onto PCBs.
- Machine Operation: Operate Samsung CP and SM machines to perform surface mount assembly processes, including pick-and-place, solder paste deposition, and reflow soldering.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct visual inspections and utilise automated inspection equipment to verify the accuracy and quality of component placement and solder joints.
- Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on Samsung CP and SM machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out parts, to ensure optimal performance and minimise downtime.
- Process Optimisation: Collaborate with engineers and production team members to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production parameters, and quality control data for traceability and continuous improvement purposes.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Teamwork: Perform other duties in the factory as needed to assist others in busy periods such as hand placement of components.

Description:
As a Production and Test Operative you will work as part of a team to manufacture and test our motor controllers produced in our factory. You will learn about how to use and maintain specialised equipment to inspect and test our products, under the management of our Senior Production and Engineer, alongside other experienced staff.

Component Handling & Assembly
- Hand-place components accurately onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) when required.
- Assist in the preparation and setup of production runs.
- Inspection & Quality Control
- Use inspection equipment (e.g., magnifiers, AOI, or microscopes) to check the placement and soldering quality of components.
- Conduct visual inspections to ensure all assemblies meet defined quality standards.
- Report any defects, issues, or inconsistencies to the Operations Manager promptly.
Programming & TestingWorkplace Organisation & Lean Principles
- Assist with basic programming of boards using supplied tools and procedures.
- Support functional testing of motor controller boards, following established test protocols.
- Accurately log test results and flag any non-conformances.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workspace at all times.
- Follow and promote basic Lean Six Sigma practices to improve workflow and reduce waste.
- Participate in regular housekeeping activities and help implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Take part in departmental meetings to discuss and improve processes.

Pay: £7.55 per hour
