Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust are looking for 2 Apprentice Estates Mechanical Technicians to work in Property maintenance at a AFC Band 5 ( Annex 21 )- 37.5 hours a week . Estates maintenance is a busy department responsible for ensuring all mechanical equipment is maintained to statuary and mandatory standards which will ensure a well maintained safe and secure environment for our patients, staff and visitors throughout the trust
This role will be required to work trust-wide across Epsom & St Helier Hospitals,
- The duties include training to become a Mechanical technician capable of highly complex fault finding and maintenance on all aspects of engineering plant and equipment throughout the Trust.

- The duties must be carried out within stringent timescales and within statutory guidelines.
- The post holder will have day to day contact with the internal and external stakeholders regarding sensitive, complex and confidential issues.
- They will present verbal, written and numerical issues, explaining complexities, to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- To provide stakeholders updates and potential disruptions, to organise planned shutdowns.

Annex 21 pay would progress as follows:
- More than three years from completion of professional training & competencies: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
- More than two but less than three year : 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
- More than one but less than two years: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate
- Up to 12 months: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
- To conduct PPM and reactive tasks
- To fault find on complex mechanical systems
- To help and escort of contractors
- To manage personal jobs on the CAFM via PDA
- To be part of the on-call rota
- To support in mechanical system shut downs and isolations

Technical , to work towards
- To carry out planned preventative maintenance of Calorifiers, Heat Exchangers, and pumpsets.
- To identify and rectify faults of high/medium/low pressurised Heating and Domestic Hot Water Systems including boiler resets.
- To fault find on complex Air Handling Units and Refrigeration Plant, and to carry out regular, Planned Preventative Maintenance when required.
- To find and rectify faults on Medical Gas equipment, i.e. changing of O-rings/washers, and to work on ‘live’ systems when supervised.
- To operate Building Management Systems and to interrogate programmes and change parameters when required.
- To carryout tap and TMV maintenance when required, cleaning, disinfectants and temperature setting.
- Install of plumbing goods, toilets, sinks, macerators, point of use water heaters
Information and reporting
- Responsible as part of the local team for the information upkeep of the CAFM
- To investigate incidents and report back into the management structure.
- To produce engineering reports where requested, for safety groups and trust committees as example
Technology or system support
- Be conversant with the CAFM via handheld PDA system
- Be conversant with BMS and Bold systems
Communications and Engagement
- Provide and receive complex information to managers and end users
- Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information
- Communicates technical project related information with other professionals, both internal and external personnel, including senior managers, directors, to ensure that work undertaken conforms to all statutory and HTM requirements.
- To work effectively with relative services within the trusts to ensure that due process and governance is followed in the delivery of additional works
General responsibilities
- To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.
- Assist visitors, patients and staff during incidental contact
- When required assist in grievances and disciplinary issues
