Description
Due to recent business growth, McGoff and Vickers are now looking to recruit a brand new fire and security engineer apprentice in the Prestwich area.
As a Fire & Security Apprentice, you will install, maintain, and service fire and security systems in line with British Standards and manufacturer regulations.
Your duties may include:
- Inspecting and testing systems
- Diagnosing faults
- Programming and terminating equipment, ensuring full functionality
- Review electrical drawings and blueprints
- Install cabling and ancillary items
- Assess third-party installations
- Keep up to date with the latest industry technology
Entry requirements
Desired skills and qualities:
- Live in, or within 10 miles of, Prestwich
- A full UK driving license is a firm requirement for this role - please only apply if you have a driving license
- 17+ only due to above driving license requirement
- Previous electrical experience would be a bonus
- Able to pass an enhanced DBS background check
- You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team meeting tight deadlines.
- You should be committed to developing new skills and gaining knowledge of the fire and security industry.
- Physically fit, and comfortable working at high and low heights
- Willingness to learn and a genuine interest in learning more about the wider fire and security industry
- Able to work in a team as well as motivated to work alone when required
- The ideal candidate will need the confidence to deal with clients in a professional manner, be reliable, adaptable, conscientious and able to follow instructions.
Training to be provided
Skills for Security will deliver the Level 3 apprenticeship via block release training weeks at their Walsall training centre via a block release system. This would involve going to the training centre Monday - Friday 1 week in every 8 weeks.
You will be required to complete all training tasks allocated during your block release weeks at the training centre, and gathering any site evidence needed to supplement your studies.
You will be required to complete an annual assessment at the training centre and take part in any additional training courses that the company require you to complete.

The apprenticeship is 36 months, full commitment is required throughout.
