When you join our Engineering Team at Telent, you will be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. It is an exciting time to join a high-performing team doing complex and critical work on a major UK-wide Rail Projects. You can expect to work on a range of Rail projects, both in Operational Communications (trackside) as well as Safety & Security (stations) for Network Rail and other train operating companies.
What you will do:
The successful apprentice will work closely with established Project Engineers to learn all aspects of delivering technical solutions for designated technology services products/systems and projects within Rail. You will be working across a variety of projects and learning about each stage from bidding of projects through to design, delivery and sign off. You will become a multi disciplined project engineer with a broad skillset.
- Develop a solid understanding of the projects we are delivering and learn each facet of the project lifecycle
- Assist with production of bill of materials and equipment lists to support subsequent build phases.
- Visit sites and assist with technical site surveys and audits.
- Assist in the engineering planning and progress tracking
- Learn how to produce engineering drawings
- Give client updates on progression reports with method statements
- Learn and understand budgets and costings
- Learning about software design tools such as; Visio & CAD
- Understanding and adhearing to the Health & Safety requirements working in a Rail environment
- Understand the installation, testing and commissioning of a vast array of products across multiple technologies and manufacturers
- Working in a multitude of environments from offices, equipment rooms, stations and track-side
- Working as part of a team and towards strict deadlines
- Learning the requirements of the different customers and contracts and how to fulfil those needs
Who you are & what to prepare for:
- We do not require individuals with experience as we will provide full training in all aspects of the role. We are looking for candidates with the right attitude, driven, commitment, and desire to learn.
- You will get a mobile phone and a laptop as part of the role
- Although supported throughout the programme by us at Telent you will need to take ownership of your tasks and personal development
- The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, planning and organisation skills with the ability to use their initiative. You will be to be proactive with a positive attitude to work and career development.
The Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade 4 or higher (or equivalent qualification). This must include Maths, English and a Science or IT based subject
- X2 A-Level or equivalent in 2 subjects in STEM related fields. Desirable, not essential.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK
- Full UK Driving licence
- Must be over the age of 18 by September 2026.
- Able to adhere to our Drugs & Alcohol policy and pass a pre-employment Drugs & Alcohol assessment
- Willing to travel to Telent and client sites
Programme Specifics:
- This apprenticeship is typically 36 months to complete.
- Starting salary of £17,500 which will increase throughout the duration of the programme.
- The qualification you gain will be Rail Engineering Technician Level 3.
- Our chosen training provider National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) will support you in obtaining your qualification
- You will be work from our Warwick HQ but will involve working from home, other Telent sites and client sites across the UK as required throughout the programme.
- On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent where you can continue to pursue your career
- You will be mentored by colleagues, supervisors, managers and tutors throughout the programme
- You will gain industry recognised vendor certification such as a PTS card (personal track safety)
