As an Mechanical Apprentice, you’ll learn a skilled trade while working on live construction projects. You’ll gain hands-on experience alongside experienced engineers and technicians, developing the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for a long-term career in building services engineering.
Location
This role will be based in the Midlands region, working within the Tilbury Douglas Engineering Division. You’ll be primarily site-based, with some time spent in college or training centres as part of your apprenticeship.
What you’ll be doing
As a Level 3 Apprentice, you’ll combine practical, on-the-job training with formal study, developing the core skills required to become a qualified electrical, mechanical or plumbing operative.
Depending on your specialism, you will study towards a Level 3 Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing Apprenticeship, achieving a nationally recognised trade qualification.
With the support of experienced engineers and supervisors, you’ll:
- Learn how to install, maintain and test electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems on construction projects
- Support day-to-day site activities in line with drawings, specifications and programmes
- Assist with fault finding, testing and commissioning activities
- Learn how health, safety and environmental requirements are applied on site
- Use tools, equipment and materials safely and correctly
- Support quality checks to ensure work meets required standards
- Work alongside other trades and project teams to support coordinated delivery
- Develop an understanding of building services systems and how they operate together
Why this role?
This apprenticeship offers a hands-on route into a skilled trade, combining real site experience with a recognised qualification. On completion, you’ll be well placed to progress into roles such as Qualified Electrician, Mechanical Engineer or Plumber, with opportunities to continue your development through higher-level apprenticeships within Tilbury Douglas.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for motivated, practical people who are keen to learn a skilled trade. You’ll bring:
- GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
- A genuine interest in electrical, mechanical or plumbing engineering
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- A strong focus on safety and quality
- Reliability, commitment and a positive attitude
- A full UK driving licence (or working towards one by the time you start)
Previous site, technical or practical experience is desirable but not essential.
