UHCW NHS Trust is looking to recruit an Apprentice Occupational Therapist to sit within our Inpatient Therapy department.
As a development role, you will attend University to complete the Occupational Therapy degree, whilst working as a Therapy Assistant. This allows you to gain your clinical skills and knowledge whilst training to become an Occupational Therapist.
You will initially start as a Therapy Technician (Band 3). To recognise your development and progress with therapy competencies, and clinical knowledge and skills, at the half-way point of your course, we will look to transition you into a Band 4 role. This will allow you greater autonomy and to work at a higher level. On completion of the degree, you will become a registered Occupational Therapist and will transition into a Band 5 Rotational Occupational Therapy post.
The University that you attend will depend on the successful candidate. The University options include: Coventry, Derby, Northampton.

The Apprentice Occupational Therapist is a developmental role. The Occupational Therapy training programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. An Apprentice Occupational Therapist will be based, as an employee in the organisation, in a specific setting, but may also experience working in alternative settings in order that they gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme.
The Apprentice will complete Band 3 Therapy Competencies within a specified timeframe. On completion of these, they will work toward your Band 4 Therapy Competencies, at which point, pay will be adjusted to reflect increased knowledge, skills and behaviours.
The apprentice will work within the Inpatient Therapy service as a Therapy Technician while they attend University and progress towards achieving an Occupational Therapy BSc level 6 qualification at which point they will be offered a B5 Rotational Occupational Therapist position within the Inpatient Therapy service.

As part of this apprenticeship programme there is a requirement to undertake and successfully complete an end point assessment. The apprentice will develop a holistic approach to patient care along with knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Occupational Therapy while working within and supporting inpatient service delivery and through completion of the Occupational Therapy training programme.
At the end of the programme, the Apprentice Occupational Therapist will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to promotional employment as an Occupational Therapist within the UHCW Therapy department, working within the HCPC code of conduct and relevant local policies, procedures and guidelines.
