We are thrilled to open applications for our Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship based at Glensanda Super Quarry – a truly unique site in the global construction materials industry. This apprenticeship is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to become a skilled mechanical engineer. You'll learn directly from seasoned professionals and gain exposure to advanced industrial processes that drive sustainable construction on a massive scale.
This is a structured, four-year program combining academic study with practical training. You'll attend college to build a strong theoretical foundation, while gaining real-world experience working with cutting-edge mechanical systems and equipment that keep our quarry running efficiently.

Apprenticeship Overview:
Engage in comprehensive training programs combining hands-on experience with academic learning.
Work alongside experienced professionals to gain practical skills in mechanical engineering.
Participate in projects focusing on innovation and sustainability in construction materials and practices.
Support the engineering team in designing, testing, and improving industrial processes and equipment.
Learn about and contribute to our sustainability initiatives, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and enhancing efficiency.
Typical Placement can include:
Hands-on training with experienced mechanical fitters
Installation, maintenance, and diagnostics of quarry machinery and equipment
Working with pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, and pipework
Fault finding and preventative maintenance in a dynamic heavy-industrial setting
Supporting sustainability-focused engineering projects
Health & safety reporting and compliance practices

What you’ll need
Our minimum entry requirements are:
Four National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including Mathematics (Application of Maths is not accepted) and a Science subject; OR National Qualification at SCQF level 5 in Mechanical Engineering
What will be you studying as part of your apprenticeship?
Depending on your prior qualification it could be a combination of either:
SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (SCQF Level 5)
National Certificate in Engineering (SCQF Level 6)
Diploma in Engineering (SCQF Level 7)
