The Opportunity:
An exciting chance for an experienced barista to develop the skills and knowledge required to become an established speciality coffee roaster with your own independent style. During the learning process the successful candidate will also be working as a barista in our coffee shop.

Working closely with the two business partners from very different backgrounds within the world of coffee.
Together, they will share a variety of skills, knowledge and experience in areas that include:
- coffee sourcing, cupping and roasting
- coffee agriculture, hospitality, tourism and ecotourism
- sales and marketing across hospitality, retail, SMEs and corporate
- coffee sustainability, technology, history and coffee shop culture
The Candidate:
Clear and demonstrable passion to develop a career in coffee.
Keen to learn the art of coffee roasting but also enjoys being hands on in the coffee shop, hosting and creating warm connections with customers.
Creative thinker who can contribute and implement ideas for marketing, new offerings, growth avenues, events, workshops, partnerships and other opportunities.

Open to the idea of managing and developing staff as we grow.
Must have experience:
3+ years of barista experience, ideally serving speciality coffee
Good to have experience:
Experience managing a team and or leading a coffee shop or bar shift.
Experience in social media for businesses, developing ideas, filming, editing Insta reels etc.
Wider coffee industry experience or qualifications demonstrating your passion for a career in coffee.
Work or volunteer experience on coffee farms.
Roastery experience or qualifications.
Bar or cocktail making experience (Lost Horizon Coffee is an alcohol free venue).
Event hosting, planning and managing.
The Role:
6 month probation and roastery apprenticeship.
1 day a week in the roastery and 3-4 days a week as barista in the coffee shop.
Roastery Assistant duties include:
Sample roasting, cupping and green buying
Sales and marketing
Helping with roasting, bag making and order fulfillment
Planning and hosting workshops and events
Maybe occasional bike deliveries
Barista duties include:
Usual dialling in, serving customers, cleaning etc
Stock management across coffee, other drinks, cakes and all consumables
Regular marketing across social media and other avenues
Updating of menu offering and exploring the creation of new drinks
Restocking and managing retail shelves
Assisting on events
6-12 months - 2 days a week assisting in the roastery and 3 days a week in the coffee shop.
Taking on some unsupervised roasting duties to cover holidays and busy times for head roaster.
