Work:
- 38 hour working week
- Monday - Friday - 8am start (30 minute lunch) 4:06 finish
- 1st Year Basic Salary starts at: £17,467.84
- 2nd Year Basic Salary starts at: £24,897.60
- 3rd Year Basic Salary starts at: £26,201.76
As an apprentice at Metroline Manchester, you’ll work alongside skilled body repair technicians in a real-world environment. You’ll be trained in how to assess, repair, and replace damaged vehicle bodywork on buses and coaches, playing a vital role in returning vehicles to service.
What You’ll Do at Work:
As an apprentice, you will be gaining real hands-on experience in one of Metroline Manchester's 4 bus depot workshops:
- Hyde Road: M12 6JS
- Ashton (Tameside): SK15 1QP
- Sharston: M22 4RB
- Wythenshawe: M23 9ET
The successful applicant will be involved in accident damage repair, using a variety of tools and materials to restore vehicles to their original condition. Over the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll learn technical knowledge and core repair skills to enable you to identify different types of damage and apply appropriate repair techniques safely and effectively in line with industry standards.
Key Duties Will Include:
- Assessing vehicle damage and identifying the correct repair method
- Removing and replacing damaged body panels and structural components
- Repairing panel damage using metalworking tools and equipment
- Welding and bonding techniques for structural and non-structural repairs
- Using jigs to realign vehicle structures
- Working with high-strength steels, composites, and modern materials
- Quality control and final vehicle inspection procedures
This role will suit someone who is practical, methodical, and has an eye for detail.
Training:
Training will be delivered through a combination of on-the-job learning and 6 weekly training blocks at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol.
Training Support Includes:
- A dedicated workplace mentor and S&B college mentor
- A custom-designed electronic logbook to track progress and provide feedback
- Yearly Gateway Assessments to prepare for your End Point Assessment
- Fully funded travel and hotel accommodation (with breakfast and a two-course evening meal) during block release college training
On Completion You Will Achieve:
- Level 3 Vehicle Damage Panel Technician Apprenticeship Standard
- Functional Skills Level 2 in English & Maths (if not already achieved)

- GCSE or equivalent in Maths (Grade 4/C or above) – desirable
- GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade 4/C or above) – desirable
If you have previous experience or qualifications, the apprenticeship programme may be adjusted to reflect your current skill level.
