Dalkia Scotshield will ensure that their existing, experienced engineers will be partnered with the new apprentices. Apprentices will experience a variety of environments, including commercial sites and construction sites.
Day to day tasks will vary depending on the project or work being carried out, but most projects will involve installation, commisioning and maintainence of fire and security systems.
Applicants who are sucessful at interview stage would be invited to Dalkia's office for an assessment day.
As a Fire and Security Engineer, you will be learning about, and working on, installing, repairing and maintaining the following fire and security equipment:
- CCTV
- Intruder alarms
- Access control
- Door entry/exit systems
- Fire alarms
Entry requirements
Desired skills/qualities:
- Any experience working with electrics would be a bonus, but not essential
- Physically fit, and comfortable working at high and low leights
- Willingness to learn and a genuine interest in learning more about the wider fire and security industry
- National grade 5 (or equivalent) for English, Maths and Science.
- Excellent timekeeping.

- Excelllent team player with fantastic customer service skils.
Training to be provided
Initially the apprentice will work alongside experienced engineers, learning and developing in the field of security.
The qualification you would be studying towards is the Fire Emergency Security Systems Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
Skills for Security will deliver the apprenticeship training in block release at their Wishaw Centre. You will attend centre one week every eight weeks.
You will be required to complete all training tasks allocated during your block release weeks at the training centre and gather any site evidence needed to supplement your studies.
You will be required to complete an annual assessment at the training centre and take part in any additional training courses that the company require you to complete.
The employer will mentor and coach you on the job. You will also shadow, learn and get involved in all aspects of Fire and Security Alarms.
You will be provided with full training on company standards and industry best practices.
Things to consider
The apprenticeship is up to 36 months and therefore, full commitment is required.
This role will be recruited for via an assessment day, this will be organised by Dalkia, and likely take place at the end of July.
