An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Toolmaker Apprentice to join our Casting toolroom team at our plant in Exeter. The apprenticeship will involve training in CAD / CAM / CNC Machining also all toolmaking skills.
Apprentice Duties & Responsibilities:
- To learn and perform scheduled and maintenance on all mould tools.
- Machine components using lathes, drilling, manual milling, grinders, NC and CNC milling machines
- Measurement instruments such as micrometres, gauges and vernier callipers to check the tool’s dimensions and component accuracy
- monitoring the tools used on the manufacturing line and address any necessary repairs or possible improvements
- attending machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem
- mould tool planned maintenance
- Design and manufacture small mould tools, jigs and fixtures
- Follow work processes and safety standards closely to ensure a safe working environment
- To be committed in working towards achieving the competencies set out in the apprenticeship standards
- Maintain an apprenticeship training record to be produced when required
Person specification:
- An interest in manufacturing engineering as a subject and the desire to learn and develop
- An interest in learning practical/tool usage skills
- Must desire and want to Personally develop every day to become a highly skilled toolmaker
- Able to adapt with a proactive approach to ways of working
- Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include:
- Hobbies or voluntary work
- Previous work experience
- Engineering related school subjects
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to personal learning – this could include a hobby, project, or additional qualification
- Willingness to work as part of a team
Requirements:
To be eligible for the apprenticeship programme the following must apply:
- You have the right to work in the UK
- You must not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2025 or later
