The Apprenticeship
Amcor Flexibles UK is looking to recruit one Mechanical Engineering Apprentice to join the engineering team in Swansea. This is a time served engineering apprenticeship. You will learn and obtain experience in the fundamentals of 70% mechanical bias with 30% electrical engineering through a combination of on-the-job training and attendance at a local college. Accountabilities
- Full time study at college during your first year with business projects during holidays. Part time study (day release to college, 1 day per week) for subsequent years of the apprenticeship to achieve a Level 3 knowledge qualification in Engineering and NVQ Level 3 in Engineering as a minimum
- Subject to aspiration, performance and business requirement, you will progress onto HNC in year 3 & 4.
- College attendance and punctuality must be exceptional and will be fully monitored throughout your apprenticeship.
- To ensure that all college assignments and NVQ activities are completed within the specified timescales
- Work in all areas on breakdown of machinery as requested by Mechanical Team Lead or Shift Operations Manager.
- To participate in planned maintenance as per the planned maintenance schedule
- Ensure administrative data such as logbooks, stores requisitions or information requested by Mechanical Team Lead are completed
- Assist with the installation of new equipment as required
- Assist with identifying obsolete parts
- Assist with ensuing safety and accident statistics within the department remain at an acceptable level – target zero
- Ensure ‘Temporary fixes’ on machinery are highlighted to appropriate personnel
- Ensure project work is completed as per the project plan
The successful application will have:
- a minimum of 5 GSCEs, achieved or predicted, A*- C (or 9 – 4), including English, Maths and Sciences. Engineering related school subjects would be beneficial.
- a strong desire to learn and develop, using open thinking; able to easily adapt to new ways of working
- an evident interest in engineering as a subject
- good IT skills - A working knowledge of Microsoft office programs is sufficient
- a strong work ethic, ideally this will be able to be demonstrated e.g. through part time employment and/or voluntary activities
- good communication skills with ability to converse professionally with people at all levels of the business
- a willingness to attend training courses and qualifications as required for the role
Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include hobbies, voluntary wok or previous work experience.
