Townend English Chartered Accountants is an accredited training organisation with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). We are now seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious Apprentice Accounts Assistant to join our growing team and begin their professional journey through the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification — with the opportunity to progress onto the ACA qualification thereafter.

Key Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of experienced team members, your duties will include:
- Assisting with cloud-based bookkeeping, including using software such as QuickBooks
- Providing training and support to clients on the use of cloud accounting systems
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Assisting with payroll processing and related administration
- Supporting the preparation of year-end financial statements and tax computations
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records
- Liaising with clients by telephone and email in a professional and friendly manner
- Supporting colleagues with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Strong academic background, with at least GCSE grades 5 and above in English and Maths
- Excellent communication skills and a confident, professional manner when speaking with clients and colleagues
- Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Client-focused attitude and commitment to providing high-quality service
- A genuine desire to learn, develop, and take on increasing responsibility
Desirable:
- Prior work experience (ideally in an office or customer service environment), though full training will be provided
