Apprentice – Maintenance Engineer

Within this challenging role, you will undertake a 3-year apprenticeship in Heavy Vehicle Or Plant Equipment Service & Maintenance. CLdN Ports London Workshop maintains all the engineering functions that supports the Ro Ro terminal operations.
Your role
· Complete a 3-year apprenticeship in HGV/Plant Maintenance, which will be split between the education provider and CLdN Ports. The majority of time will be spent onsite gaining practical experience.
· Become proficient in fitting and assembly skills including the use of hand tools and basic maintenance practices.
· Gain practical knowledge of inspection techniques including those that require proficient use of precision measuring equipment. Metalwork, soldering and other jointing processes. Electrical/electronic maintenance and faultfinding.
· Report writing and use of data to understand machine issues.
· Provide feedback to mentors and Workshop Manager commensurate with training objectives completed.
· Be able to work at height and be physically able to scale ladders or stairs of various port equipment.
· Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment; work to the Company’s SSOW (Safe System of Works) and HSE approved codes of practice.
· Assist with procurement of spare parts, consumables and non-consumable items for engineering and terminal as necessary.
· Required to hold a full driving licence by the end of the Apprenticeship.
· Carry out such tasks and duties as directed by the Engineering Management Team that are calculated to contribute to the requisite level of performance and competence. This may include repair, maintenance and service of terminal infrastructure and equipment.
Your profile
· You will hold GCSE level 4 or have/working towards a functional skills Level 1 in Maths, English & Science (or equivalent) – applicable to those under 19 years of age.
· Have an interest in mechanical engineering and/or vehicle maintenance.
· Be IT literate and familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Possess good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team.
· Be able to communicate clearly at all levels both vocally and in writing.
· Prioritise workload and work under own initiative. Maintain a level of flexibility and dependability.
