We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our respected Site Team as a Site Maintenance Apprentice. This apprenticeship is specifically aimed at someone who already has practical experience in building, construction, or maintenance, and is looking to further develop their skills and gain a recognised qualification within a supportive educational environment.

You will work alongside our experienced Site Officers and Site Manager, contributing to the maintenance and smooth operation of a large and busy school.
As a Site Maintenance Apprentice, you will play an important role in supporting the upkeep, safety, and functionality of the school’s buildings and grounds. You will use your existing practical experience while continuing to learn new skills and techniques.
Your key responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting general site maintenance, including repairs, basic carpentry, painting, and minor plumbing tasks.
- Assisting with planned preventative maintenance and essential compliance checks (e.g., fire alarms, legionella flushing, emergency lighting).
- Helping to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues across the site.
- Supporting the setup of teaching spaces, events, and school activities, including movement and assembly of equipment and furniture.
- Contributing to the safe operation and appearance of the school buildings, workshops, and outdoor areas.
- Assisting with deliveries, waste management, stock control, and general site organisation.
- Maintaining accurate logs and records in line with health and safety and facilities compliance requirements.
- Learning and developing further competence in building maintenance, health & safety, and facilities management systems.
This apprenticeship offers structured development while enabling you to apply your existing skills from day one.
Bitterne Park School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, provide satisfactory references, and complete all pre-employment safeguarding checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
