NMIS Digital Factory is currently looking to recruit 2 modern apprentice technicians to work in the digital factory facility, with a view that each apprentice is given the opportunity to experience a range of engineering technologies at NMIS Digital Factory. The areas in which the apprentices will be working is within the Machining and Additive workshop team. The primary focus of the apprenticeship scheme will be to experience all aspects of the aforementioned areas and specialise in a selected area for the final year(s) of your training programme.
In order to be deemed eligible for one of the positions, you should have a keen interest in developing a variety of technical skills, facilitating the pursuance of an interesting career in engineering design and manufacturing technology. The successful candidates will also be trained to demonstrate practical skills to small groups of students, with a view to develop confidence in the selected specialist area to allow demonstration and presentation of the task undertake for NMIS research programmes.
As part of the apprenticeship programme, the candidates will undertake extensive training. This will be in the form of onsite training within the relevant disciplines, and attendance of college throughout the initial 2 years as a minimum. An example of college attendance; 2 days a week for the first year, 1 day per week for the second and third year, however this is yet to be finalised therefore candidates must take into consideration that college attendance is mandatory during the apprenticeship programme.
Minimum of 4 Nat 5’s at A, B and C (or equivalent) which must include English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The Modern Apprenticeship programme is co-ordinated within the University and gives the successful candidate an opportunity to “earn and learn” as they will achieve a SQA qualification during the 2 year programme.
The initial appointment is fixed term for 2 years whilst the post holder undergoes the majority of their studies and some workplace training. Subject to satisfactory performance and business need, the modern apprentice will likely be moved onto an open ended contract if performance and commitment can be demonstrated.
