As an Apprentice Customer Support Engineer, you’ll become the link between our customers and our technical teams. You’ll help keep major engineering projects on track, identify improvement opportunities, and make a real difference to how we deliver work. You’ll work with experienced colleagues, grow your skills, and be treated as a valued member of the team from day one.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Working as part of customer support teams gaining skills in Contracts, tendering, project management, customer care
- Keeping customers in the loop: You’ll update clients on progress, flag any changes early, and help keep everything running to plan.
- Supporting sales activity: You’ll help manage the sales funnel, keeping information accurate and up to date.
- Teamwork at its best: Work alongside technical, quality, and operations teams to keep jobs moving and standards high.
- Coordinating suppliers: Partner with our Contracts Support Expeditor to ensure external services arrive on time and match the quality we expect.
- Working with real data: Use information from across the business to create accurate job costings, issue tenders, and support commercial decisions.
- Shaping the bigger picture: Get involved in strategy discussions, help analyse the market, and support your teammates as part of our Contracts Team.
What You’ll Study as an Apprentice
Your learning will combine:
- On the job training at Sulzer Aberdeen
- Day release or block release study at a local Scottish college (NESCol)
- Real project experience from the very start
What are we looking for
We are inviting applications for apprenticeship positions at our Aberdeen Service Centre. We seek individuals who are dedicated to pursuing a professional career in engineering. The following qualifications and attributes are desired for this role:
- Completion of a college programme, specifically the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification, or
- Currently undertaking studies towards a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
- A genuine interest in Engineering and technology
- Good time keeping and organisational skills
- A positive attitude and strong attention to detail
Alternatively, where the college programme has not been completed, a minimum of four Standard Grades, including Mathematics and English, will be considered
- Demonstrable interest in engineering and a commitment to personal and professional development
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning
Candidates who fulfil either the preferred or minimum qualification criteria and possess a genuine enthusiasm for a career in engineering are encouraged to apply.

What Will Your Time as an Apprentice Look Like?
Year 1
Time will be split between college and the service centre dependent on what college programmes you have already completed. Whilst in the service centre you will spend the first year within the team we expect you to specialise.
Year 2/3
From your second year onwards, you’ll spend 50% of your time within the customer support teams and 50% of your time learning about other areas of the business including time in our workshop areas gaining a much better understanding of the product and service we offer.
You’ll gain hands‑on experience, apply what you’ve learned, and continue your studies towards a Level 3 qualification and your final Apprenticeship Standard.
Throughout this time, you’ll receive regular mentoring, internal training, and opportunities to broaden your experience across different engineering tasks
Year 4
You will working withing a specific customer support team managing Long Term Service Contracts, honing your skills whilst under the guidance of our senior customer support managers
Throughout this final year, you be involved in all aspects of contract management from major LTSA tenders and negotiations to coordinating field service scopes.
This immersive experience is designed to challenge you and help you refine the skills you’ve acquired, preparing you for a successful transition into a full-time role withing the customer support team
