Key Responsibilities
- You will be trained to plan and carry out preventative planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs to all plant within the WER ROCKWOOL plant.
- You will be trained to carry out routine/preventative and reactive maintenance on all electrical aspects of the plant in a safe and efficient manner.
- Training within the plant will be given within the maintenance team and by working alongside Maintenance Electricians/Technicians. When it is deemed that enough knowledge and ability has been acquired, the apprentice will be allowed to work on their own.
- In all circumstances, to ensure all work is carried out to a high standard as expected in ROCKWOOL.
- Training given will include PLC programming, panel wiring, electrical fault diagnosis, burner controls and other activities.
- Training will be given to ensure all Health and Safety procedures are adhered to, including Permit to Work.
- You would be required to assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments.
- Attend all training as required to obtain personal qualification/competence. Course work is expected to be passed and the expected qualification to be achieved is Higher National Certificate.
- Comply with all Health and Safety requirements: as per training, policies, procedures, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work, etc.
- Actively seek to improve safety culture.

The Apprenticeship
Year 1
- NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations.
- Digital Literacy Level 2
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, year 1
- Start your Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.
- Complete additional training courses relevant to the engineering discipline of your apprenticeship
Year 2
- Attend the workplace 4 days per week to continue work on Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
- Attend college one day per week to continue to work on Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, year 2
- Complete additional training courses relevant to the engineering discipline of your apprenticeship.
Year 3
- Attend the workplace 4 days per week to continue with your Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.
- Attend college one day per week to undertake HNC in Electrical Engineering, year 1
- Complete additional training courses relevant to the engineering discipline of your apprenticeship.
Year 4
- Complete your Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance in the workplace.
- Complete your HNC in Electrical Engineering at college.
- Complete additional training courses relevant to the engineering discipline of your apprenticeship.
