We are recruiting for a caring individual who is seeking to start a career working with horses. The individual will be keen to learn and enjoy dealing with a wide range of horses. You will join a fun knowledgeable team who will help you to develop your skills and equip you for a wide range of future roles.
As a team we have a lot of fun so a sense of humour is essential but we also work hard. Your day to day activities will include:
- Feeding.
- Loading and unloading horses onto the walker.
- Bandaging and booting.
- Turning out and bringing in.
- Mucking out.
- Cleaning automatic waterers.
- Washing feed bowls.
- Changing rugs.
- Vet care – eg washing and treating wounds.
- Making up haynets.
- Tidying the yard.
- Client service.
Over and above the everyday routine we are able to offer the successful applicant the chance to learn how to rehabilitate horses who have been injured and to watch and practice skills to return horses to competing at high levels.
With horses competing at International level and championships there is also the chance to get behind the scenes and learn what is required to be successful at competitions and at squad training sessions.
Desired skills and Qualities
- Previous experience of working with horses would be very useful.
- Client service (in any area eg restaurant, shop etc) preferred but not essential.
The successful candidate will be self motivated, have a great sense of humour, be hard working and open to learning. You will be punctual and reliable and enjoy working as part of a team.
Desired qualifications
- Pony Club exams, GCSE, or equivalent, in maths and English
Training
- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship.
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and onsite visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
Future prospects
- Genuine opportunity to join team on a permanent basis at the end of Apprenticeship, and / or groom at local/ national / International competitions.
- Great contacts for roles in other yards across the whole of the UK particularly in Dressage and Eventing disciplines.
Things to consider
- We work in all weathers with a variety of horses who have their own needs… you must be receptive to instruction as competition horses are not always easy! In addition we offer very high levels of service to our clients and take pride in rehabilitating horses successfully so you must be prepared to operate with high standards.

- The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
