Company name: Rosie’s Childcare.
Type of role: apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship duration: approx. 12 to 18 months.
Apprenticeship course: early years practitioner level 2 or early years educator level 3.
The role: Childminders care for children in a home setting and run their own businesses – this job will give you exposure to every aspect of being a childminder from educating little minds to being a childcare entrepreneur overseeing the running of a business including finances, invoicing and tax, for example. Creating your own activities to stimulate and delight young children are part of the job, we encourage employees to bring ideas to make our setting cosy and welcoming for little ones – a home from home. We also feed the children in our care three times a day so creative cookery is part of our daily routine – baking with the children is all part of the fun.
This role is for an apprentice, meaning that you will work on a paid basis in our childcare setting, while also studying for a nationally-recognised qualification.
Both apprenticeships are suitable for those with no previous experience. Level 2 may be more suitable for those leaving school at 16. It allows you to work in an early years setting under supervision, supporting the planning and delivery of education and care for 0-5 year olds, and is an excellent entry point into the sector. Level 3 may be more suitable for those who want to plan, organise and lead enriching learning activities, and perhaps supervise others.
Typical tasks include:
- supporting or leading educational games
- conducting activities such as crafts, music and cooking
- preparing the learning environment with resources and displays
- helping with trips and outings
- feeding and changing babies
- observing and assessing children to help their learning
Apprenticeships combine real work with training and study. Unlike college or university, you’ll apply what you learn directly on the job, gaining hands-on experience and skills. How you study will be up to you (online or face to face at a training institution e.g. Farnborough College) and your studies will be fully funded, meaning you’ll not need to pay anything towards your studies, while at the same time earning money on the job and gaining valuable experience in the early years and childcare sector.

Once your apprenticeship concludes we hope you will stay on with us as a permanent member of staff.
The location: You will work from my home in Camberley, Surrey GU15 1QQ, which has a dedicated playroom for childminding, plus garden. I already employ one assistant so employing an apprentice will make us a team of three people. My home is less than one mile to our nearest school drop offs, so we always walk to and from school with the minded children. Own car not necessary (we do almost all trips into Camberley and local attractions by bus). Lots of great playgrounds and open spaces within walking distance.
The schools we drop off / pick up from are currently Heatherside Pre-School and Heather Ridge Infant School, Martindale Rd, Camberley, GU15. From academic year 27/28 this may include Ravenscote Junior School, Old Bisley Rd, Camberley too.
Start date: The start date is flexible, this position could start as early as Tuesday 22 April (summer term 2025) or as late as the new autumn term in September 2025. It is desirable but not necessary that the apprentice works for summer term 2025 however I definitely need the apprentice to be on board by September 2025 in time for the start of the autumn term.
The hours: Surrey term time only. Below is a rough outline of the hours, but is subject to change depending on parent/carer demand. All times are approximate but should be something like this:
Academic year 2024 / 2025 (Apr 2025 – Jul 2025)
Tues – no hours
Wed - 9am til 1pm
Thurs – 9am til 1pm
Academic year 2025 / 2026 (Sep 2025 to July 2026)
Tues – no hours
Wed - 9am til 6pm
Thurs - 9am til 6pm
Academic year 2026 / 2027 (Sep 2026 to July 2027)
Tues - 7am til 2.30 or 6pm
Wed - 7am til 2.30 or 6pm
Thurs - 7am til 2.30 or 6pm
Although the working hours are shorter during academic year 2025/2026 this should allow you ample time to do your apprenticeship studies.
The pay: apprentice wage for the duration that you are studying (£7.55 per hour), then minimum wage after that, according to age (£7.55 per hour if under 18, £10 per hour if 18 to 20, £12.21 per hour 21 and over).
Qualifications: DBS (criminal record and background) check (I will arrange and pay for this). You need to be a caring person who enjoys working with children and display good safety awareness when out and about with little ones – we are out and about twice a day on school runs! I will arrange and pay for your paediatric first aid training too. Safeguarding training will also be provided.
