We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Gardener to join our team to complete the Horticulture level 2 qualification. This is a full-time role working 8 - 16:30 Monday to Friday plus one Saturday morning in 3 during term time with 20% of the job spent on training. There is an opportunity for a permanent position at the end of the apprenticeship.
What will this role involve?
- Irrigation of seasonal plants and flower displays.
- All areas of border work (weeding, dead heading, edging etc)
- General nursery work and propagation
- Pruning
- Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mower
- Prepare, maintain, and clean equipment
- Tractor driving with implements or trailers
- Road sweeping and emptying bins
- Power washing
- Use of powered tools including strimmers, hedge trimmers and blowers
- Fencing
- Assist grounds department if required
What skills and experience are required?
- Interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, School community and other teams.
- Ability to take instructions from the Head Gardener and prioritise accordingly.
- Good time keeping and reliability.
- Physically fit and able to work outside for long periods and in all weathers.
- Ability to complete college work and assignments in a timely manner.
Desirable
- A full driving license
- Experience of agricultural/grounds/garden equipment would be advantageous but not essential.
