Job Title: Assistant Accountant (Level 3) Apprentice
Job Purpose:
As an Assistant Accountant Apprentice, you will support the finance team by assisting with day-to-day accounting tasks, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of financial processes, and contributing to the smooth operation of the financial department. This apprenticeship offers on-the-job training combined with formal study to achieve a Level 3 qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing Financial Transactions: Assist with the preparation and processing of sales and purchase invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Bank Reconciliation: Support the reconciliation of bank accounts and general ledger entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Accounts Preparation: Help prepare month-end and year-end accounts, assisting with adjustments, accruals, and prepayments.
- Payroll Assistance: Support with payroll processing, ensuring that all employee salaries, deductions, and contributions are accurate.
- VAT Returns: Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Bookkeeping: Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate records of financial transactions are kept.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist with the production of financial reports for management review.
- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure that all financial records comply with relevant legislation and accounting standards.
- Software Use: Gain experience using accounting software and tools such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero.
- Communication: Provide support and advice to other departments regarding financial queries.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: At least GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, with a keen interest in accounting and finance.
- Mathematical Skills: Strong attention to detail and an aptitude for handling numbers.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a busy work environment.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication for both internal and external stakeholders.
- IT Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and a willingness to learn accounting software.
- Work Ethic: A willingness to learn, work as part of a team, and demonstrate initiative.
- Desirable: Any previous work experience or voluntary work in finance or business administration is an advantage but not essential.
Training & Development:
- Study: The apprenticeship will include studying for a Level 3 Assistant Accountant qualification, which covers areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, and bookkeeping.
