Role: Accountancy Apprentice
Apprentice Grade - £9.18 an hour
Location: Council House
Hours: 37 hours a week
Closing Date: 12 March 2025
Contract Type: Fixed term for 21 months
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Accountancy Apprentice to join our Service Support team. This rewarding role offers an excellent opportunity for career development, where you will study towards the AAT Level 3 Accounting qualification while gaining hands on experience in a friendly and supportive environment.
As part of a wider finance team, you will be involved in supporting financial operations by carrying out various Accountancy and Administration tasks including inputting journals, interrogating financial systems, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
This role provides a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and grow within the organisation. You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship and gain valuable experience in public sector accounting, contributing to the smooth running of financial processes while advancing your professional qualification.

The Opportunity
In the role of Accountancy Apprentice, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
You’ll update financial reports, maintain both manual and digital filing systems, and assist with the reconciliation of revenue and balance sheet accounts.
You will input data into financial systems, run reports from the financial systems to support colleagues and budget managers, and assist with year-end accounting processes. Additionally, whilst managing your own workload you will support the financial team with various ad hoc administrative tasks and gain exposure to a range of accounting activities, such as budgeting and forecasting.
You will process journals to record financial transactions, ensuring that they are accurate and comply with accounting standards. A key part of your role will involve checking financial transactions to ensure they are recorded correctly, and investigating any discrepancies that may arise.
You will also be involved in reconciliations, such as matching accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies between records, and ensuring that all financial transactions align with relevant accounts and ledgers. Additionally, you will be responsible for checking and processing requests for petty cash and imprest top-ups, ensuring these are properly documented and in line with internal procedures.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise and work to challenging deadlines
- 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English
- Good organisational and numeracy skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Use of packages including Microsoft Office Excel and Word
