What you’ll be doing
Are you someone who’s itching to build a career in Software Engineering? Motability Operations has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Software Engineering team on an 18-month apprenticeship programme, with a view to progressing into a permanent role upon completion.
On the programme you’ll spend four days a week as a Software Engineer within one of our teams, and one day a week dedicated to completing an online education programme to achieve a Software Developer Level 4 Qualification. If you’re interested in obtaining a Level 6 Qualification, equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, we may be able to offer this upon completion of the initial apprenticeship.
When you’re working in our teams, you won't be on the side-lines – you'll be right in the thick of it, applying and broadening your skills, being an active member of our agile product teams. Your work will revolve around developing and maintaining production software that matters to both our internal and external customers.
We’re passionate about fostering collaboration and we believe in a level playing field where your voice and ideas count, regardless of your experience level. Of course, your colleagues will be there to guide you every step of the way. Plus, you'll have regular one-on-one chats with a dedicated mentor who'll be there to offer you even more advice and support.

Who you’ll be working with
The Software Engineering team is part of the Technology division of the company. Here, we collaborate across diverse agile product teams, consisting of Software Engineers, Quality Engineers, UX Designers, Business Analysts, Product Specialists, Product Owners, and a dedicated Scrum Master. Together, we join our expertise to deliver exceptional value to our customers.
We have a hybrid working environment, where we typically spend 3 days working together in the office, and 2 working from home.
Recruitment Process
Application and CV
- As part of your application, you will answer four questions specific to the apprenticeship role.
- If you apply through the Disability Confident scheme and meet the minimum criteria, your application will be progressed to the video assessment stage.
Video Assessment
- You will answer up to 6 questions via video response.
- For each question, you will have 2 minutes thinking time and up to 3 minutes response time.
- Additional resources will be provided to you before you begin to support you through this stage.
Assessment Centre
- If you progress to the next stage, you will be invited to an assessment centre.
- This is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to learn more about us.
At the Assessment Centre, you will:
- Attend our Bristol office and meet the team.
- Participate in an interview.
- Complete task activities.
Offer
- If you are successful, we will make you an offer to join our team.
- The start date for this apprenticeship is in September.

Minimum criteria
You’ll need all of these:
- Right to work in the UK
- Lived in the UK or EEA continuously for the past 3 years
- At least a grade of 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- 3 A levels / BTECs in any subject (attained or predicted).
- Not previously studied the course content
- Not undertaking any other qualification during apprenticeship

- passionate about learning, including both technical and non-technical skills
- excited to join us in our Bristol office at least three days a week
- eager to start in September 2025

What we do
