To support teaching staff with all the general duties of teaching, so that children meet their academic targets for reading, writing and mathematics

What will the apprentice be doing?

Key Role:

Provide teaching support in small groups and, where necessary, for individual pupils in order to aid the teaching of all curriculum subjects but especially the basic skills of literacy and numeracy
Provide activities to promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem and improve independent learning
Contribute to the achievement of and help to maintain the school mission, aims and values
Contribute ideas, opinions, and evaluations to support the preparation of the school improvement plan

Specific Duties and Responsibilities in Supporting for the School

To display pupils work to reflect their achievement
To supervise pupils on outings and visits as required
To supervise pupils at lunchtimes and breaktimes as appropriate
To attend relevant school meetings as required and to participate in school training and other learning activities, in addition to training provided as part of the apprenticeship package
To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health & safety and security and to refer all concerns to the Headteacher, receiving training where necessary from the school
To treat all information relating to a pupil as strictly confidential, and to be aware of and comply with school policy and practice, receiving training where necessary from the school
To be a proactive member of the school and class team
To participate positively and professionally in effective relationships with team members
To attend relevant courses and learning activities in order to update knowledge as required

General duties

The Teaching Assistant Apprentice may be called upon to perform other duties that the Headteacher considers reasonable, that are commensurate with the grading and designation of the post

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

A permanent role within the school is not guaranteed at the end of this apprenticeship, but you will be a qualified teaching assistant.

Annual wage

£11,778 a year

Please note that this is a term time only position so you will receive a pro-rata amount of the advertised annual salary.

Working week

Monday to Friday term time plus 5 staff training days

Total hours per week: 30 hours a week

18 Months
