Production at our Manchester site is a 24/7 operation of highly automated equipment, with performance and efficiency dependent upon excellent maintenance and engineering practices.
Apprentice Engineers will work within a team of Engineering Technicians, to support the Engineering Management team and Site Manager in providing an innovative proactive engineering service to the site, based on skill, experience, and continuous improvement, ensuring the efficient and smooth running of the site.
Apprentice Engineers are to acquire engineering skills to the highest level following an established apprenticeship programme.
Working within the Engineering Maintenance team on day-to-day tasks and base activities to help maintain continuity and consistency within the team, contributing to the team’s deployment of best practice.
Duties
- Maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness in own work areas.
- Adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
- Ensuring maintenance management systems are to date, accurate and completed on time and in full.
- Ensuring necessary risk assessments are completed before commencing certain tasks.
- Ensuring maintenance tasks are prioritised correctly.
- Minimising down-time by responding quickly to incidents, e.g. breakdowns or outages.
- Ensuring all machinery and ancillary equipment is fully operational to further reduce the risk of down-time.
- Carrying out systematic fault finding
- General machine maintenance (cleaning, inspecting, repairing, rebuilding).
- Demonstrate a proactive involvement in the achievement of the site strategy and department KPIs.
- To communicate effectively.

- Ability to remain calm and professional when under pressure.
- Adaptable and flexible to meeting the ever-changing needs of the business.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft applications, with the ability to learn new computer systems.
- Drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards both learning and work.
