Job Summary
R and J motors are recruiting a Motor Vehicle Panel Repair Apprentice
The apprentice learns to assess vehicle damage, strip down damaged vehicles, use tools to repair and replace body panels, apply filler, weld and join components, prepare surfaces for paint, and record completed work. The role requires strong hands-on skills, an understanding of health and safety, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a passion for cars.
Training will be both on site and at training provider location
Key Responsibilities
Inspect vehicles to identify the extent of damage and determine the best repair method.
Strip down damaged vehicles, including removing and refitting panels and trim components.
Smooth minor dents, fill holes or rusted areas, and repair or replace damaged panels.
Learn and apply various joining technologies, such as spot welding, MIG brazing, and body adhesive bonding.
Prepare surfaces using filler and foundation materials for painting.
Safely operate tools and equipment, including panel pulling systems, alignment tools, and welding equipment.
Maintain accurate records of all work performed for customer and workshop management.
Skills & Qualities
Enjoy working with your hands and have a natural ability to use tools and equipment effectively.
Carefully follow instructions and technical data to ensure repairs are performed to manufacturer specifications.
- Health & Safety Awareness:
Adhere to strict health and safety regulations, including WHMIS, within the workshop environment.
Collaborate with other team members, including panel beaters, spray painters, and estimators.
Identify and rectify structural faults and communicate supplementary damage found during the repair process.
Show a strong interest in the automotive trade and a willingness to learn and ask questions.
Learning & Progression
- Apprenticeships provide hands-on training in a real workshop environment while earning a wage.
- Training covers fundamental skills like metalworking, welding, chassis repair, and applying body filler.
- Upon completion and accreditation, apprentices can advance to senior technician roles or look to further training such as a paint technician, MET technician, VDA , or workshop manager.
