The number of people affected by sensory impairments or sensory loss is growing and demand for services is on the increase. When you experience a deterioration in your vision or hearing, it can take time to summon the courage to talk to someone. Their teams have infinite patience and understanding and make that first call as easy as possible.
They provide caring holistic support to help people come to terms with a new diagnosis or to better manage an existing condition. While society may present obstacles, Wilberforce Trust seek to remove them.
They are now looking for a passionate and driven ICT and Facilities Apprentice to join their team.
This role will be primarily based at their Head Office, Wilberforce House, with the option for some hybrid working after a probationary period.
Purpose of the job:
To support the IT and Facilities functions of the Wilberforce Trust, with a primary focus on IT systems, user support, and digital infrastructure. The apprentice will gain hands-on experience in IT support, systems administration, and basic facilities management, while working towards a recognised qualification.
Main Duties:
- Provide first-line IT support to staff, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
- Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computers, printers, and mobile devices.
- Support the management of user accounts, passwords, and access permissions.
- Help maintain the organisation’s network, including Wi-Fi, cabling, and basic server tasks.
- Assist in the implementation of AI-driven systems (e.g., predictive maintenance, smart energy management)
- Log and track IT support requests using the helpdesk system.
- Assist with the deployment of software updates and security patches.
- Support the Facilities team with basic tasks such as equipment checks and office moves.
- Participate in IT projects, including upgrades and rollouts of new technology.
- Ensure compliance with data protection, cybersecurity, and health & safety policies.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets and inventory.
- Attend training sessions and work towards an ICT Level 3 qualification.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on new technologies and best practices
- Support the Facilities team with technology-enabled building management systems (e.g., access control, CCTV, smarts sensors, BMS.)
- Participate in regular audits of IT systems to ensure compliance with Data protection and security Policies working with our third party IT/ Cyber contractors.
- Work with external IT/Telecoms support to ensure we are working to best practice and ensure meet Cyber essentials plus.
The Ideal Candidate Must:
- Have a passion for IT and a desire to learn more and get into the ICT field. Some base-level experience with ICT/ building computers etc on either a personal or professional level is required. Nerds/ gamers etc with a passion for computers are very welcome!
- Be able to work independently, proactively, and have a passion to learn and develop in a very varied role.
- Be able to manage time effectively
- Be able to develop and maintain good working relations with all Wilberforce Trust staff
- Be able to work independently to tight deadlines
- Always uphold the values of The Wilberforce Trust
- Represent the Trust as required
- Have or be willing to develop a thorough understanding of ethics, regulations, and laws
- Be willing to work with management, regulators, and board members
- Undertake such other duties as the Chief Executive or Trustees may reasonably require from time to time

Entry requirements
- A passion for IT and a desire to get into the IT industry
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C/ level 4 or above
Training to be provided
Information communications technicians support the delivery of efficient IT operations; this could be installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing hardware and software faults, solving technical and applications problems either remotely or in person, including resolving issues such as slow performance, connection problems and an inability to access data.
Apprentify's ICT apprenticeship covers topics allowing apprentices to support organisations relying on computer and communication systems in all areas of their operations and decision-making processes. As an ICT apprentice, you will develop skills and knowledge of the industry by learning key IT essentials such as fault finding and diagnostics, preventative measures, routine maintenance, system tools and testing. You will also gain an awareness of cloud systems and physical and virtual network components including an awareness of security and firewalls, network architecture, protocols and principles of database migration.
