Job Purpose:
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Transport Department as an Apprentice Transport Administration Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a career in logistics and transport administration while gaining valuable experience and working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the day-to-day administrative duties of the Transport Department
- Support with booking deliveries and collections with hauliers and customers
- Maintain and update transport records, logs, and schedules
- Prepare and process transport-related documentation (delivery notes, PODs, etc.)
- Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers
- Assist with vehicle compliance, maintenance scheduling, and driver hours monitoring
- Input data accurately into transport management systems (TMS)
- Help with reporting, filing, and general office administration
- Handle telephone and email enquiries in a professional manner
- Ensure all tasks are completed in line with company policies and health & safety regulations
Requirements:
Essential:
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Reliable and punctual
Desirable:
- Interest in transport, logistics, or supply chain
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Previous experience in an office or admin environment (even voluntary)
Training and Development:
As an apprentice, you will be supported through a structured training programme leading to a recognised qualification in Business Administration or Transport & Logistics (dependent on training provider). You will receive on-the-job training, mentorship, and regular reviews to support your development.
