Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated SQA Assessor to support the delivery of the Foundation Apprenticeship in Hardware Support. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing candidates’ competencies, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring all assessments align with SQA standards. This role involves working closely with learners, training providers, and employers to support apprentices in developing the skills and knowledge required for a career in IT hardware support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment & Verification:
- Assess and verify candidates’ work in accordance with SQA guidelines and qualification standards.
- Conduct observations, professional discussions, and portfolio reviews to evaluate learner competency.
- Provide detailed, constructive feedback to apprentices on their progress.
- Ensure assessment decisions are fair, valid, reliable, and consistent.
- Learner Support & Guidance:
- Support apprentices in understanding assessment requirements and preparing evidence for their portfolios.
- Offer one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to develop technical skills and knowledge.
- Track learner progress and provide tailored action plans for improvement.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate assessment records in line with SQA policies and awarding body requirements.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes.
- Keep up to date with industry developments and SQA assessment standards.
- Employer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with employers to ensure apprentices gain relevant workplace experience.
- Provide updates and feedback to training providers, employers, and stakeholders.
- Support the continuous improvement of the apprenticeship programme.
Essential Requirements:
- SQA Assessor qualification (L&D9DI or equivalent).
- Proven experience in assessing IT or hardware support qualifications.
- Strong technical knowledge of hardware support, troubleshooting, and IT infrastructure.
- Ability to support and engage with young learners in an apprenticeship setting.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Desirable:
- Internal Verifier qualification (L&D11 or equivalent).
- Industry certifications in IT hardware support (e.g., CompTIA A+, Cisco, Microsoft).
- Experience working within SQA frameworks and Foundation Apprenticeships.
