Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant (Trainee/Apprentice) to join our finance team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on accounting experience while working towards a recognised professional qualification.
You’ll support the finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with management accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial procedures and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and post to the general ledger, including bank reconciliations,
- Raising company invoices & distribution of invoices,
- Ensuring supplier invoices are correctly coded and posted to the ledger,
- Perform margin analysis on contracts,
- Balance sheet reconciliations,
- Suspense account analysis,
- Prepare, update and reconcile intercompany accounts,
- Assist in the month end preparation of management accounts,
- Prepare external returns including VAT and ONS,
- Cover ad-hoc financial duties and support other team members.
Training and Development
- You will study towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g. AAT Level 3/4)
- You will receive on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced finance professionals.
Key Skills Essential:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general IT skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eagerness to learn and develop professionally.
- Ability to work as part of a team and manage time effectively.
Desirable:
- Previous exposure to accounting, finance, or business administration (e.g. work experience, coursework).
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks).
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles.
Requirements
We are looking to fill roles with the right people, suitable applicants will be asked to interview immediately. All roles are subject to 6 month probation, 5 years referencing, successful DBS check & medical screening. Applicants must have & continue to have a valid Right to Work in the UK, at all times.
