As a Fire Alarm Installer and Service Apprentice, you will embark on a dynamic and rewarding career within the fire safety industry. Working under the supervision of experienced engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of fire alarm systems across a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential properties. This apprenticeship will equip you with the technical skills, industry knowledge, and practical experience required to progress towards becoming a fully qualified fire alarm engineer.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation of fire alarm systems, including wiring, mounting devices, and setting up control panels BAFE/NSI/BS standards according to design drawings and specifications.
- Support the servicing and maintenance of existing fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with British Standards and relevant regulations.
- Learn to diagnose faults and repair fire alarm components under supervision.
- Receive training on working with power tools
- Participate in regular inspections and testing of fire safety equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out, including service reports and maintenance logs.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Attend training sessions and complete coursework as required by the apprenticeship programme.
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors.

- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and Science are desirable.
- No prior experience required; all training will be provided.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to professional development.
- Basic IT skills and familiarity with mobile devices for reporting purposes.
- Full driving license
Training to be provided
Fire Emergency Security Systems Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
Skills for Security will deliver the apprenticeship training in block release at one of their centres. You will attend centre one week every eight weeks.
You will be required to complete all training tasks allocated during your block release weeks at the training centre and gather any site evidence needed to supplement your studies.
You will be required to complete an annual assessment at the training centre and take part in any additional training courses that the company require you to complete.
Zicam will mentor and coach you on the job. You will also shadow, learn and get involved in all aspects of fire alarms.
