To work and study as an apprentice healthcare scientist
To develop skills to provide the diagnostic and technical services of the Cardio-Respiratory Department for the Warrington and Halton Hospitals specialties.
1. Learn and practice:
- Recording and interpretation of 12 lead Electrocardiograms, able to alert medical staff to adverse results requiring urgent medical intervention. Participating in the provision of ECG cover to external sites as required.
- Application of 24-hour ambulatory ECG recorders and multi day event recorders to include analysis of the clinical data and production of a written report.
- Application of 24-hour ambulatory BP monitors to include analysis of the clinical data and the production of a statistical report.
- To assist with both medical and technical supervised Exercise Tolerance Test.
- To be able to perform basic Lung Function Tests including administering meter dosed inhalers and nebulised medication as instructed by requisitioning practitioner and to become competent in full Lung Function Tests.
- Application of sleep monitors to include analysis of the clinical data and to produce a written report.
To develop competencies in invasive monitoring techniques in the Coronary Angiography Suite
2. Supervision and organisation of ATO’s and trainees when required, consulting with the more senior Physiologists when necessary
3. To participate in training of students and ATO’s
4. To maintain appropriate CPD and remain current with developments in the field of Cardiology.
