Role Overview
Are you passionate about the built environment and eager to develop hands-on skills in building surveying? As an Apprentice Building Surveyor, you’ll gain real-world experience while working alongside industry experts, supporting a wide range of construction and property projects.
This apprenticeship provides a blend of site-based learning and office responsibilities, equipping you with the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to assess, maintain, and improve buildings. With structured mentorship and professional development, you’ll be on the path to becoming a fully qualified Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS).
At RLB, we are proud to partner with the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) to deliver the Building Surveying Degree Apprenticeship. This structured programme combines academic learning with practical experience, leading to a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying and the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Role Responsibilities
Learning and Development:
- Study towards your BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying with UCEM, balancing on-the-job learning with academic study.
- Gain a strong understanding of building pathology, contract administration, property legislation, and sustainability.
- Shadow experienced professionals during property inspections and client meetings, assisting in technical assessments and project planning.
Building Surveys & Assessments:
- Assist in conducting building condition surveys, measured surveys, and defect analysis.
- Support the identification and evaluation of defects such as damp, structural movement, and material deterioration.
Property Compliance & Regulations:
- Learn about key property legislation, including building regulations, planning law, and health & safety requirements.
- Support clients in ensuring buildings are compliant and fit for purpose.
Refurbishment & Maintenance Projects:
- Contribute to refurbishment and maintenance projects, helping to prepare schedules of work and specifications.
- Work with colleagues and clients to assess sustainable solutions for improving buildings.
Technical Reporting & Documentation:
- Assist in preparing technical reports, condition schedules, and design documents.
- Learn how to use industry-standard software to analyse building data and support project planning.
Candidate Profile
We’re looking for motivated individuals with a keen interest in buildings, construction, and property management. The ideal candidate will be:
- Enthusiastic about problem-solving and working in a hands-on, practical environment.
- A strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and clients.
- Eager to learn and develop technical knowledge in construction, sustainability, and surveying.
