We are recruiting Cable Jointing Apprentices to join our expanding teams. These opportunities will be managed from our Liverpool business, from which, we deliver services to clients throughout the UK.
The Role…
A Power Network Craftsperson has responsibility for the safe construction, maintenance, and repair of the UK’s electrical power network, to provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to the country. This involves working at various locations across the UK’s power network.
The occupation exists within an industry with a high level of safety critical activities, so there is a requirement for a disciplined and responsible approach to work. The work requires a good level of physical ability to access and egress work positions.
What you’ll be doing:
Your Key Responsibilities & Accountability on completion of apprenticeship:
- LV service jointing
- LV mains jointing
There are three specialisms within this occupation:
- Working on overhead lines
- Working on underground cables
- Substation fitting
Successful candidates will acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to attend DNO training schools, with the goal of obtaining the relevant authorisations to work across various DNO networks.
Who we want…
Apprenticeship candidates are expected to have achieved 3 to 5 GCSEs at grades A to C (or level 5), including mathematics, English, and a science subject.
The successful candidate will be required to commit to a 36-month apprenticeship with Quartzelec, commencing in September 2025. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, a permanent position as an Authorised Cable Jointer will be offered.
The apprenticeship programme will include several block release study weeks at the Utility & Construction Training Centre (UCT) located in Trafford Park, Manchester. As such, travel is a necessary component of this apprenticeship, and candidates should anticipate occasions when they will be required to work and study away from home.
Given the location of both the workplace and the training centre, successful applicants must possess a full driving license and have access to their own transportation.
Qualification Level:
The following qualifications are attained through this apprenticeship.
- Technical Certificate C&G 2304-17 in Electrical Power
- Engineering Level 2
- SHEA Power (EUSR)
- BESC Basic Electrical Safety Competence (EUSkills)
Typical Duration: 36 months
