Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team at HMS as an Apprentice Buyer, where you will gain practical experience and develop valuable skills, working towards an NVQ Level 4 qualification. This is a 24-month apprenticeship. Successful candidates will be expected to travel to their assigned college or workplace as required.

What Will You Be Doing?
-
Learn to support procurement in line with policies and deliver value for money.
-
Assist with tasks across contracts, staying within spend and risk limits.
-
Train in procurement processes like RFQ, RFI, ITT, and tenders.
-
Support teams with templates, advice, and internal service.
-
Help draft specs and evaluate bids.
-
Gain experience using procurement systems like Procore.
-
Ensure fair, transparent procurement with clear audit trails.
-
Contribute to cost-saving and value-for-money efforts.
-
Support supplier reviews and contract meetings.
-
Update plans and report progress to managers.
-
Join projects like materials and waste procurement rollouts.
-
Help improve processes and maintain supplier records.

Assist with benchmarking and supplier engagement.

Support system improvements and smarter invoicing.

Help onboard new suppliers.

Assist with data, tenders, and procurement projects.

What We’re Looking For:

Applicants must have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English or a Level 2 Apprenticeship. Alternatively, a vocational qualification at Level 1 plus GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above in both Maths and English will be accepted. Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths is also accepted as an alternative to GCSEs. Please note: For apprentices aged 19 and over at the start of their apprenticeship, English and Maths qualifications are no longer a mandatory requirement in England. However, a basic assessment will still be required to ensure suitability for the course.

Assessment Day
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day to further evaluate their skills and suitability for the apprenticeship. Assessment days will take place during the week commencing 9th July 2025.
College or Training Organisation
All our apprentices are enrolled in a local college in Liverpool, Warrington, or St Helens. Due to capacity limits, placements may be assigned to any of these colleges.
Your Training Plan
You will receive both on-the-job and off-the-job training over the course of 24 months, following a detailed induction and training plan. You will attend college on a day-release basis. Upon successful completion, you will earn the Procurement and Supply Chain Practitioner Level 4 Qualification.
During Your Apprenticeship
You will work across our three main vibrant heartlands – Liverpool, Warrington, and St Helens and surrounding areas, where you’ll rotate through a variety of dynamic workstreams, gaining hands-on experience and building a broad foundation of knowledge along the way.
