We are seeking to appoint an Apprentice Ranger to work with us in delivering a range of practical and community-based activities across our commons.
If you are interested in learning a new range of skills that will prepare you for a career in wildlife management and the protection of sites for nature conservation, we would like to hear from you.
Our apprenticeship is open to everyone and offers paid work-based learning opportunities that will help you set the course for a future career in nature conservation. You don’t need to have previous experience to apply, although volunteering might give you a taste of what the role could involve. All you need is GCSE Grade 5 (or C grade) in English and Maths, and we’ll support you to gain these qualifications if you don’t have them already. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, maternity, race, religion or belief, gender, and sexual orientation.
The apprenticeship involves both on and off-the-job training, supported by a dedicated mentor with regular attendance at an approved FE college during the first 12 months.
You will work with the ranger team responsible for managing six Open Spaces that are managed for their rich natural and cultural heritage, as well as for informal recreation.
You will support the delivery of the annual work programme and will be trained in the use of tools and machinery to carry out this work.
You will develop excellent communication skills to deal with the public, assist with guided walks and promote the work of the City of London to our local communities.
You will be based primarily at the Merlewood Estate Office in Caterham which is the operational base for the west Wickham & Coulsdon Commons
The working week is based upon an average 35-hour week (09:00- 4:30 Mon-Fri) but this will vary according to the need to attend college for monthly block weeks during the first year of the apprenticeship.
This apprenticeship role is based at West Wickham & Coulsdon Commons and will last for 18 months (including time to complete your End Point Assessment).
If you are enthusiastic and committed to achieving your countryside worker level 2 apprenticeship qualification and are eligible to apply, we would love to hear from you.
