Level 6 Apprentice Trading Standards Professional

Salary: £29,346 pa

up to 41 months apprenticeship (36 months learning delivery, plus 5 months for End Point Assessment)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Level 6 Apprentice Trading Standards Professional to join our Trading Standards Team at Enfield Council.

As a Trading Standards Professional you would be involved in a wide range of activities and projects, all aimed at ensuring a fair, safe, and legal trading environment. This will include the following areas of work:

Taking samples/test purchases of age restricted products (tobacco/alcohol/knives); consumer goods such as toys, cosmetics and electrical items, to have them checked against legal standards.
Stopping doorstep rogue traders
Working with partners to protect consumers and businesses from frauds and scams.
Investigating rogue traders, preparing criminal cases, and giving evidence in court.
Inspecting businesses and investigating consumer complaints.

Your role will be varied. As an Apprentice Trading Standards Professional, you’ll be working towards a recognised professional qualification (degree level). You will be supported through a structured training programme. With a defined career path, you will qualify as a Trading Standards Professional capable of working across various disciplines which may, depending on your option modules include, fair trading, feed/food, product safety, and weights and measures. The successful candidate will, in addition to their Level 6 studies, be responsible for managing their own operational workload. They will be expected to participate in the development, planning, delivery and management of projects, to ensure our local priorities are met. This will involve undertake investigations and various enforcement activities, including preparing notes, statements and prosecution reports.

About You:

To be considered, you’ll need a good standard of education, and the aptitude and commitment to study towards a professional qualification. You’ll need the ability and desire to learn, and the capacity to understand and interpret complex legislation. You’ll also need good communication and customer service skills, high attention to detail, and great organisational skills. You must also have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be able to use other software systems.

As a minimum you must have GCSE (or equivalent) English (grade 5) and Maths (grade 5) and two A level subjects or equivalent ie, BTEC or a Level 4 apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are open to age 16 and over and not in full-time education.
