NHS Lanarkshire is thrilled to announce several exciting opportunities for Modern Apprenticeships in Maintenance at University Hospital Monklands.
Annex 21 - As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions so you will be paid 60% of the top of Band 3 salary in year 1. Your salary will be reviewed annually in accordance with the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, ensuring fair and structured progression throughout your apprenticeship.
If successful, you will be appointed on a salary aligned with the Scottish National Living Wage.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will transition to the appropriate salary scale for the role, reflecting your new qualifications and responsibilities.

- Location: University Hospital Monklands

Duration: Fixed term post for 4 years starting from the 18th of August 2025 for 37 hours each week.

Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1st of August 2025, (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with *care experience) are eligible.

Must have National 5(or equivalent) qualifications in the following subjects at grade A, B or C; English, Maths, Physics and Technological subject

If would be preferred if you currently have or are working towards having a full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence

What We Offer:
- Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of Maintenance skills.

Qualification: Work towards achieving a SCQF Level 7 qualification in Service Maintain and Commission Building Services, with Glasgow Kelvin College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

Support: You will be well supported on this Modern Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.
What We're Looking For:
- Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme.

Skills: Strong communication, ability to prioritise tasks and work in a fast-paced hands-on environment. IT skills would be an advantage, along with the ability to understand various procedures and processes and follow health and safety guidelines.

Interest: A particular interest in maintenance roles, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development.
Duties as a Maintenance Assistant may include:
- Work to NHSL’s Health and Safety and Technical Policies and Procedures.

Diagnose and repair minor faults on engineering and/or electrical equipment.

Completes all records as required by the performance management system.

Diagnose and repair minor faults on engineering and/or electrical equipment.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance using job cards provided, completing all records and documentation required.

Work to NHSL’s Health and Safety and Technical Policies and Procedures
No Prior Experience Necessary: This Modern Apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
