Starting wage: £7.55 per hour
Start your IT career with NIC – A company that grows with you.
At NIC we rely on technology to keep our business running smoothly and our people connected across the UK. We’re passionate about developing future IT talent, which is why we’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our IT team as an IT Apprentice.
You’ll work alongside experienced IT professionals, supporting both end users and business systems, while working toward your Level 3 Digital Support Technician qualification. This is a hands-on role where you’ll gain real-world experience and develop the technical and professional skills needed for a successful IT career.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll provide support across the IT function, learning how to manage hardware, systems, and user requests — and helping to keep our organisation running at its best. Tasks will include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for colleagues with IT support needs (via phone and email).
- Logging IT requests accurately and escalating to the appropriate support team member.
- Helping to troubleshoot and resolve routine hardware or software issues.
- Assisting with the allocation and shipping of IT equipment to field-based colleagues.
- Creating and updating user-friendly support documentation and how-to guides.
- Keeping IT records and databases up to date (e.g. asset registers, licensing logs, supplier invoices).
- Gathering data and supporting the creation of reports (e.g. service stats, exception logs).
- Helping to communicate system updates, planned maintenance, or outages to users.
- Supporting team coordination tasks such as meeting setup, minutes, and follow-ups.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who’s curious, confident, and motivated to build a career in IT. Ideally, you’ll have:
- GCSEs or A-Levels (or equivalent), particularly in IT, Maths, or Business-related subjects.
- A natural interest in technology and digital systems.
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A logical approach to problem-solving and a strong attention to detail.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office tools (especially Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to take initiative.
What you’ll gain:
- A fully funded Level 3 Digital Support Technician qualification.
- Hands-on experience supporting IT systems in a national business environment.
- Mentorship and training from an experienced and supportive IT team.
- Opportunities to progress into permanent IT roles at NIC after your apprenticeship.
- A positive and inclusive work environment where your ideas and growth are valued.
