About Us
This is a great time to join Gloucestershire County Council, as Children’s Social Care is on an exciting journey, which focuses our approach into being more creative, strengths-based and person-centred, to ensure that we work together to ‘Make a Difference’ to our local communities.
We are an agile working organisation with a combination of office-based working and working from home (essential equipment is provided). We place a high premium on diversity and inclusion, as well as on health and wellbeing and we offer a flexible working scheme which is based on business need. We offer Continued Professional Development and will support you to develop your skills and career prospects within Children’s Services.
About the Team and Role
We are looking to recruit a full time apprentice with a desire to learn and develop in business administration. You will work towards a Level 3 qualification within the Children’s Social Care Business Support Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a qualification through practical experience in an office environment and through spending time learning in an educational setting. You will receive comprehensive training and development opportunities throughout your apprenticeship. This role is based across 2 teams who you would support (with training) whilst also studying for your qualification.
The Participation Team, who work with young people and front-line staff to enable them to give their views and have a say to support Gloucestershire County Council to improve its services for children and young people, and the Social Work Academy, who are the centre for learning and development of our Children’s Social Care workforce.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who is keen to develop their skills in administration and contribute to a more innovative way of working. You must, therefore, be adaptable, have excellent communication skills and can prioritise workload. Lived experience of being in care at any time during childhood, before the age of 18 years old, would be advantageous for this role.
The council is committed to supporting those in finding employment who have experienced being looked after by a local authority.
In return we will offer you:
- Regular formal and informal support.
- Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision.
- Access to relevant training and career progression.
- Annual leave of 25.5 days (pro rata) up to 30.5 days (pro rata) after 5 years employment.
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Staff discount scheme that offers access to great savings including discounts with major supermarket chains and high street retailers.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
- Cycle to Work scheme.
- Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network.
- Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme (T&C's apply).
Working in Children’s Social Care does require an applicant who can be proactive or responsive to changing demands and resilient to some of the tough emotional content of the role. However, it is also a role that can bring great reward and job satisfaction.
