Level 3 Rail Apprenticeship - Manchester/Sheffield
As an Hitachi Rail GTS UK Rail Apprentice you will follow a three-year programme completing work across a variety of disciplines, including telecommunications and electrical. You will attend academic and professional training where you will continue to enhance your railway education.
During the three years, you will achieve the relevant safety accreditation to enable you to work on the railway and will gather experience and evidence to attain relevant competencies.
You will work on the railway, across the country (excluding London) and will be field based, travelling to where the work is required. As such it is vital that you have a full UK driving licence.
This apprenticeship will see you work a varied shift pattern, whilst it will be mostly day shift, it will include some night work and occasional weekend work.
The Programme
Through our Level 3 apprenticeship, you will develop your understanding of rail engineering from the ground up with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry. As a Rail apprentice you will be working around the country and studying towards a Level 3 Information Communication Technician Apprenticeship.
The programme will be delivered in partnership with our training provider, Velocity, via a block release delivery model. Delivered remotely, you will have approximately 5 study weeks over the first 12 months on programme. At the end of the apprenticeship you will go through an End Point Assessment to ensure occupational competence prior to progressing your career with Hitachi Rail.
During this three-year programme you will undertake varying types of work, getting to know and experience Hitachi Rail systems and learning what it takes to be a Telecomms engineer on the railway. Your placements will include activities such as:

Installation and commissioning across a wide range of Hitachi Rail products, projects and services

Faulting of rail related telecommunications systems

Reactive and preventative maintenance

Planning of project works, including documentation production

Supporting other Hitachi teams with multi-discipline works, using CAD for example
Upon completion of the programme our aim is to help you move into a permanent role within Hitachi Rail.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. You will be able to manage your own time effectively and show strong initiative. This programme is suitable for someone with strong team working and problem solving skills, and a passion for technology and the rail industry.
You will also need:

5 GCSEs grade A-C or Level 5 and above, including Maths, English and a Science subject
