DP World is growing! We have exciting opportunities for Solution Design Apprentices (Warehouse/Contract Logistics) to join our ever expanding business due to significant growth and contract wins. The primary focus of these roles will be to support Solutions Engineers in delivering customer/team requirements on small and medium sized projects within the contract logistics world. You will learn from some of the best in the market and gain invaluable experience along the way.
In this role you will need to be based around the Midlands (Coventry/Leicester/Birmingham etc), posses a driving licence and have access to your own vehicle.
NB This is not an IT position, it is Solutions Design Engineering for Warehousing/Contract Logistics, bringing warehouse design, data analysis and automation to life in response to 3PL customer requirements.
About the role
- Support the design of supply chain solutions from large scale (geographical optimization) down to small scale (design of processes and lines/stations) as part of RFQ process for logistics warehouses, industrial spaces and distribution processes.
- Support in the development of concepts for use in formal customer proposals including, but not limited to, process flow diagrams, KPIs and facility layouts in complex cases with support of Engineering team.
- Process data from Business Development/Account Management, Launch and Operational teams as part of the solution development process.
- Support preparing presentations for the presenting of technical solutions to customers through proposals, conference calls and presentations in conjunction with account management
- Support the development of RFQ concepts in to fully detailed designs post award as part of the launch process.
- Actively support the delivery of the engineering elements of new business launch including the creation of master data, process validation, infrastructure works, onboarding of plant teams and onsite contractor management
- Work with Solutions Engineers to ensure engineering function is aligned with operations team and other support functions during RFQ and launch phase.
- Support the translation of high level operational briefs / objectives in to defined solution proposal and progress and deploy into the live operation
- Contribute to the development and implementation of regional and global initiatives
- Complete time study process assessments
- Ensure clear and quantifiable data is available to show contribution to business made by individuals and function as a whole
- Able to work semi-independently and under own initiative on any site and ensure the delivery of engineering obligations / requirements as dictated by region engineering management and local plant management
- Learn logistics and industrial engineering overlap areas and be a research assistant where appropriate for new technologies or methods
Your Key Skills:
- Minimum of level 4 in Maths and English with other relevant study or skill set (Analysis, Science, Engineering, Etc)
- Interest in understanding how physical systems work i.e. engineering/science
- Ability to talk to strangers in person i.e. through work/volunteering experience/part time work.
- Problem solving skills: this could be through extra curricular activities where leadership has been displayed
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
- Interested in emerging technologies
- Strong work ethic and focus on company mission not personal causes during company time
- Professional social media use in line with DPW Policies
Beneficial Skills
- Ability to interpret data and derive solid conclusions from analysis.
- Developed computer skills, including Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables and familiarity with common formulas), Word, Visio or equivalent.
